Most any burlesque dancer will tell you that one of the questions we are asked most frequently is to explain the difference between being a burlesque dancer and being a stripper.
I think for the most part, people are genuinely curious and want to better understand what we do, but to be honest sometimes it feels (to me) like we are being asked to validate our art so that the inquirer may feel more comfortable.
Molly Crabapple knows what I'm talking about. Burly girls will especially get a kick out of this!
Gypsy Rose Lee proved that she could be admired for her beauty and brain (and by the way, she also used the term "stripper" to refer to her occupation).
