Despite my constant optimism, I have always preferred dark clouds and rain to sunshine.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to work from home (or play hookey), today is the perfect day to indulge in your favorite cozy activities (hey you can be productive in bunny slippers and P.J.'s.).
Hot cocoa is perfect for days like this.
But forget about that stuff in a box! No, no, no! You can make your own mix. It's so easy, my mom and I do it all the time, and they make nice hostess gifts too.
This recipe comes from Alton Brown (who I like to refer to as The Anal-Retentive Chef). He's tightly-wound, but this man knows his food.
Ingredients:
2 Cups Powdered Sugar
1 Cup Dutch-Processed Cocoa
2 1/2 Cups Powdered Milk
Pinch of Salt
2 Tsp Cornstarch
** My mom and I add either a pinch of Cayenne or Cinnamon, both of them go really well with chocolate.
Fill your mug half way with the mix and add hot water or milk. Enjoy!
(This will make about 4-6 cups of hot cocoa mix. Keep the extra in an airtight container in the pantry; it will last forever.)
